Breakfast on the Beach – Entry 1
John 21:12
What is Breakfast on the Beach with Jesus?
Breakfast on the Beach is an idea. It is a place in my mind. I picture myself on the beach with Jesus, head-high peaks rolling in over the rocky point at Old Mans. The cool fresh sea-dew of morning covers me like a blanket. He of course has cooked and is encouraging me in life, looking at me like a friend, a father, a teacher and my savior. The mere thought of the moment moves me to tears and refreshes my longing soul.
Peter had that breakfast. He had that meal. He had tangibly denied the savior in a manner that only he can truly understand. Not that I haven’t; but his was real, it was dirty, it was apparently forever. But there was Jesus, sitting on the beach, waiting to restore, refresh and refill him. How good it must have been for Peter to hear Jesus say…come and eat breakfast. Life wasn’t going to be simple for Peter, it wasn’t even going to be easy after breakfast when Jesus challenged him to dig a bit deeper, but for that moment, breakfast on the beach with Jesus was exactly what Peter needed. It was good - truly good.
Every Friday I plan to have breakfast on the beach with Jesus. I plan to physically go there, eat my bagel, drink my Diet Coke and imagine Jesus sitting next to me. If I can’t make it to the sand, I will go mentally, because right now that is exactly what I need. Life isn’t easy and Christ is challenging us to dig a bit deeper, but sometimes, we just need breakfast on the beach.
Have breakfast on the beach with Christ at least once a week. He will restore you, refresh you and refill you as only He can.
Just ask Peter how good it was.
