Breakfast on the Beach – Entry 3
Truth: the only thing that matters.
My favorite dialogue in the bible can be summarized as follows:
Pilate: What is Truth?
Jesus: I am.
Pilate, perhaps unknowingly, probably asked the greatest and most profound question of human existence. Not only did he ask it, he asked it -- to the answer. Not to the person who could answer, but to the actual answer.
What is truth? Christ is the truth. He is many other things, but He is, in fact, the truth.
Webster’s 1828 dictionary says Truth is “Conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has been, or shall be.”
In logic (and life for that matter), something that is a tautology is a logical truth. It is a statement or a precept that is necessarily true in and of itself by virtue of its existence. A tautology cannot be used to make a false assertion.
Christ, by virtue of His existence, is the Truth. He said: I am the way, the truth and the life. Every human at some point will struggle with what is true about the world, themselves and the people around them. One of the miracles of Christ is that if an individual seeks truth, he or she will, upon reaching the end of that search, find themselves located at the feet of Christ.
Seek truth and you will find Christ. That is why the truth matters.
