Breakfast on the Beach – Entry 13
Psalm 73:28
God at the Amusement Park of our lives.
Sometime back I had the chance to take my three year old daughter to an amusement park in Southern California by myself. Middle of summer, middle of a Saturday, Maeve, myself and a couple of other thousand people hanging out.
One of the first things I noticed was the immense diversity of people at that park. Italians, Japanese, Russians, Mexicans and…..lots and lots of Americans on summer vacation. Big families and small, tall and short, large and little, normal and frankly really odd. Many of the people were very nice. A few were less than nice. Despite all that, I just marveled at the diversity of humanity crawling over the park like a mass of ants. And then a thought hit me.
For God so loved…the mass of ants. Not only does he love this Mass of Ants, he knows each and every one of them…perfectly.
While I was thinking about ants I was also watching my daughter run through a water fountain with about fifteen other kids.
I was watching her to be sure no harm came to her. I was watching her to make sure no harm came to others. I was watching her to see if I needed to correct her behavior. I was watching her out of pure enjoyment. I was watching her out of pure desire to be with her.
Protection, Direction, Correction, Connection, Delight.
For God so loved.
So simple and so complex. Individualized Protection, Direction, Correction, Connection, and Delight…for whosoever would believe.
Remarkably for this ant, God doesn’t just love the mass of ants; he individually loves each and every one of them.
